Root Crops

Field research in root crops is carried out at the UFS. The Department maintains germplasm collections for sweet potato (77 accessions), cassava (42 accessions) and yams (30 accessions).

Livestock

The Department maintains a collection of Barbados Black Belly Sheep, rabbits and agouti as part of animal resources for research and teaching. Three open-sided, naturally-ventilated poultry houses for broiler research are also maintained at the UFS.

Tropical Tree Crops

The Department maintains germplasm collections on a limited scale for breadfruit (34 accessions), banana (16 accessions) and jackfruit (2 accessions), chataigne (1 accession). There is an ongoing research activity in some of these species.
